Our current Philippine President Rodrigo “Digong” Duterte has earned both positive and negative feedbacks on how he rules the country but we can never deny the fact that his
administration is not all talk. You yourself can judge based on the accomplishments
of his administration, from his War on Drugs to caring for overseas Filipino workers.
Was 2016 really the year of change? Here were some highlights of his accomplishment report with updates from recent news articles:
1,007,153 drug users and pushers surrendered to the government.
Mega Drug Abuse Treatment and Rehabilitation Center in Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija was inaugurated.
P1, 266 billion worth of illegal drug seized as of November 2016.
New PNP Special Action Force troopers were deployed to guard New Bilibid Prison in place of old security.
Draft of Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion Act submitted to Congress. It is meant to exempt most Filipinos from paying taxes while collecting revenue from affluent taxpayers and corporations.
P1.3 billion worth of smuggled goods seized by Bureau of Customs (BOC), including smuggled rice, fuel, fake clothes and cigarettes.
1,419 cities and municipalities (87% of total) streamlined the processing of business permits and licensing system to involve only one form.
Bureau of Internal Revenue began the simplification of the processing of tax clearances and certificates.
P455.1 million in emergency assistance extended to 10,233 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW).
Overseas Employment Certificate is no longer a requirement for vacationing OFWs.
Inter-agency Council on Traffic formed by the Department of Transportation for more streamlined system for addressing traffic.
Validity of driver’s license was extended from 3 years to 5 years.
2,531 workers found to be under abusive end-of-contract system.
597 major military operations conducted against Abu Sayyaf Group by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
Agreement signed with Malaysia and Indonesia to enhance military cooperation in addressing piracy, kidnap-for-ransom, terrorism, transnational crimes in common maritime areas.
Military personnel were deployed for the compliance with the declaration of a state of national emergency on account of lawless violence.
President Duterte visited 8 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries.
Duterte participated the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Leaders’ Meeting in Peru.
911 National Emergency Hotline was launched.
5,586 agrarian reform beneficiary organizations were assisted by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).
600,000 out-of-school youths pass Accreditation and Equivalency Program as part of the Alternative Learning System (ALS) program of the Department of Education (DepEd).
Two major power plants began commercial operation.
Hotline for the citizens’ concerns, suggestions and reports about any Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) projects was launched. Text hotline is 2920 while landline is (02)165-02.
271 new weather stations installed by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
P9.1 million worth of relief assistance was given to victims of natural disasters.
Memorandum of Agreement for Philippines hosting of Miss Universe pageant signed by the Department of Tourism and Miss Universe Organization.
Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Information Communications Technology (DICT) sign Joint Memorandum Circular shortening processing of business permits to a maximum of three days.
Executive Order creating Bangsamoro Transition Commission was signed.
49% or 3,965 out of 8,000 target Yolanda victim families transferred to resettlement sites in Tacloban.
Executive Order on Freedom of Information (FOI) was signed.
The former Davao City mayor is doing a tremendous job in the seat of power. In his almost eight months of leading the country, we can already feel the big change around us. He has a long way to go and let us see if our president still has some surprises hidden in his sleeves.
