“ Improving ang performance sa PIT in SCUAA compared sa previous years.”
That was the assessment of Sports Director Sherwin O. Seville after the Institute garnered a total of 42 gold medals during the State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) 2018 at Eastern Samar State University (ESSU) Borongan, City on December 8-12.
The total medal count increased by 73.8% compared to the previous athletic meet’s 11 golds among competitors, following the Olympic “gold first” rankings guidelines.
“The performance of PIT during SCUAA, if I [will] rate from 1-10 is 7. Kay karon, in some events, kusog kaayo labi na ang swimming nga na-champion. And also sa arnis, kusog pud sila”, Seville added.
Seville said that the Siglakas, trainings of the coaches to their athletes and the support from the Institute helped a lot.
He added that every year, the performance of PIT has been gradually improving since 2014, especially after garnering 42 gold medals compared to the previous years.
Seville is less worried about the athletes who will be graduating this academic year.
“Usually katong daghan nga mang-graduate nga mga athletes, ako nang giingnaan ang mga coaches nga kinahanglan mag-ilis na jud sila og bag-ong mga athletes as early as now kay dili na ta muhuwat og next SCUAA pa. Ang uban gani kay mostly mga first years na ilang mga athletes. Ilang gipang-tangtang ang fourth years because mga busy na”, he further said.
He pointed out the reason why there will be no National State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) this year.
”Karon wala’y national SCUAA because the PASUC (Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges) presidents agreed nga alternate ang cultural and also the SCUAA every year to [lessen] the expenses during the national competitions,” he said.
