When we talk about a morally upright personality, we are often referring to the magnanimity, rectitude, humility, faithfulness and other positive traits of a person. Who would not greatly admire such? People who have these features are sometimes pigeonholed as blessed or sanctified. Unfortunately, at the present generation, it is already rare that we encounter people who bear such attributes. With all the innovations and evident changes happening now due to a massive effect brought by the advent of technology, it is quite expected that this would really happen. Nevertheless, there are still living examples of people who remain god-fearing and ever-blessed and one of them is Mr. Rogelio I. Buot Jr.
Fondly called Roger, Mr. Buot is a PIT faculty technician of the Computer Laboratory of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Department. He is currently living at Washington Street, Brgy. Ipil 2, Palompon, Leyte together with his family with three
children who are studying now in high school. Aside from repairing computers in PIT, he also accepts off-campus services. This 42-year-old strong believer of God is one who refuses and becomes afraid to transgress especially towards other people. In fact, Roger is a Lay Minister of Saint Francis Xavier Parish Church in Palompon. However, he explained that even though how much we force ourselves to be good every time, temptations still bring us to be sinners.
He is offering all his time to worship God during Sundays despite his busy schedule. He believes that it is just the only way to thank the Lord with all the blessings he received. There was this one time in his life that he was really down because of a very serious financial problem. He was really confused what to do and where he could find the right solution for it. “Kadto
It is very unlikely to imagine that a faculty of a well-known institution does a lot of sideline works. Maybe some are doing them too but only few have similar deeds with Mr. Buot. Aside from being a preacher, he is also a humble trisikad (locally known as pot-pot) driver. Usually, other people feel embarrassed to dare drive a pot-pot
because of some various reasons. However, for Mr. Buot, it is something heroic.

Before, he was just renting a mountain bike for about Php 2,000.00 but he realized that it was already expensive and that he could not bring his family with him. Thus, he decided to procure pot-pot instead. For him, there is nothing happier than being with his family.
Aside from the above-mentioned works he has been doing, he also does public address. Using his own pot-pot, he is servicing the Palompon community with information like advertisements and the like from various establishments such as Krong’s and DU-EKSAM Marketing.
Like anyone else, Mr. Buot also has his own unique principle in life.
He always calls every student whom he encounters as “Sir” or “Ma’am” because for him, though they are still students now, the time will surely come that they will become professionals too and that they should be respected.
Mr. Buot is definitely a good example of what a noble person should be. Not everybody can do what he can. It is something that we can say as unique and extraordinary. When asked why he is like that, he answered, “Sa gamay pa ko, mahadlok jud ko makasala kay latuson man mi sa among ginikanan. Bunalan man mi ba kung makahimo mi og sala”. He grew up with that sort of living. However, despite such manner, he never regretted it because it was the reason why he reached that best version of him.
“Subtract enemy, add friendship” is the motto of his life that he treasures so much. “Gusto nako nga likayan nga naa koy kaaway. Wala ko’y limit sa pakig-amigo. Di ko mupili kong maguwang ka man, mabatan-on o mabata man, bisan si kinsa. Kung duna man gud tay kaaway o kasuko, makaguba man gud sa atong adlaw.”
How we wish we could be all like Mr. Buot, someone who has a wholesome attitude and someone whose attributes are near to perfection. But it is not hard to be like him and become someone as good as he is. It is not even difficult to have a peaceful life too nor wish to have lots of good friends.
So, aduna gyu’y sulbad ang tanan.
Badlongon ta Niya ug dili ta Niya pasagdan. Think positive lang jud!", he ended.
